Tampa’s Food Truck Rally

On September 24th, Tampa is finally catching up with the times.

That’s right.  The food trucks are coming!

Tampa’s 1st ever Food Truck Rally will take place Saturday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hyde Park Presbyterian Church (1309 West Swann Avenue).  Grab a street side parking spot in Hyde Park or snag a covered spot in the village parking garage.  Bring the family, the dog – who will undoubtedly pick up some ground scores, and some cash for this fun and festive event.

I’ve attempted to track down food trucks with vegan and vegetarian options.  I’ve reviewed websites, stalked twitter, and sent messages to these fine folks in an attempt to gather this information.  They all ignored by messages by the way. Fine I won’t be stopping by your truck, “Mr. I won’t respond to your twitter message.”

It’s actually proving rather difficult to get this information.  Just as non-committal as food trucks are about their location, it appears, they are equally as non-committal about their menus.

While I might not be able to tell you exactly what is on their menu, I can point you in the right direction so you know where to point your vegan eyes, bellies, and wallets at the Truck Rally.

My first pit stop…..

Fire Monkey

This is where I’ll order my main entrée from.  I’m ready for them to dazzle my taste buds.  Doesn’t this description get you excited… From their Facebook page,

Fire Monkey is a food truck based in St. Petersburg, FL preparing fresh, local, seasonal ingredients paired with world spices and flavors that is cooked-to-order. Vegan and Vegetarian offerings and great food for meat eaters, too!

Fresh, cooked to order food that will dazzle your taste buds! Prepare yourself for a fusion of flavors from around the world with a wide variety of dipping sauces so that you can create your personal culinary masterpiece!

You’ll never get bored with the Fire Monkey since our menu changes with what is available fresh at the local markets each day! We make every effort to buy our produce and other ingredients locally to support the local economy.

To satisfy my sweet tooth….

Coconut Bo’s

Coconut Bo’s makes fresh fruit smoothies using natural fruit juices.  You don’t have to worry about a debate over high fructose corn syrup and sugar at this cart.  They are au-natural, baby!

If I need a little pick me up…

Buddy Brew Coffee

I wasn’t aware Buddy Brew coffee got themselves a mobile coffee slinging home, as this pup is normally  in it’s dog house permanently situated on Kennedy.  However, if they are going to be at the food truck rally, they better be in a food truck damn it.    Check out Buddy Brew coffee for artisan-roasted coffees.  They have soy milk, or they better.

No, I think I’ll take this for dessert instead….
Sorry Coconut Bo’s. You just kicked to the curb for Whatever Pops.

Whatever Pops

I actually might skip the smoothie and head straight to Whatever Pops for dessert.  Or I might have both.  Don’t judge.  Whatever Pops creates natural ice pops from organic juice.  They serve it up from their concession cart.  Does that count as a food truck?  I guess I don’t have to get all technical on you, do I?

Back to the ice pops, with flavors like mango, mango and coconut lime, and at $3 a pop, I might just have two.

Some others truckers who won’t list if they have vegan or vegetarian options, but I think might are Wicked Wiches and Greek Brothers.

And you can send your non-veg munching friends to these places:  3 Ballers – traveling bistro offering desserts and sweets; Michelle Faedo’s – Cuban sandwiches, deviled crab, more; Fat Tortillas – southwestern-style Tex-Mex grill; Killer Samich – innovative takes on traditional sandwiches; and Cup and Cake – tent dedicated to sweets and desserts.

I won’t judge their carnita, if they won’t judge my 5 desserts.

Eat well,

  1. How exciting! I’ve been wanting to try a food truck but I always seem to be too busy to track them down. 🙂

    • Chow Vegan? That is you? You commented on my blog? How exciting. Yeah, I can never track them down either. I don’t have time for them to keep moving on me. That is why the rally is good – one stop shop. I like that.
